Frugal Hound here. Today I have the distinct honor of sniffing the first ever dinosaur here in my Frugal Hound Sniffs interview series. While all of my other interviewees have been, uh, living, Frugalsaurus really tested the limits of my journalistic capabilities since he’s, well, plastic.
Turns out, he had quite a few intriguing responses even if he didn’t actually smell like much of anything interesting. Gentle readers I introduce you to Frugalsaurus from 1500 Days.
1) Who are you?
My name is Frugalsaurus and I make frequent appearances on the 1500days.com early retirement blog. I try to show people the error of their big spender ways and some of the unusual consequences. My counterpart is Spendosaurus. Spendy and his girlfriend are silly consumers who go shopping way too much.
2) What is your best frugal tip?
Time is your most important asset. What is the point of having a lot of money if you don’t have time? However, the great thing is that saving time and money go hand in hand. For example, I bike to the grocery store. Why take a car to go shopping and then to my gym (Dinosaur Fitness) when I can knock both tasks out in one trip?
3) What’s your favorite treat?
Travel and just being outdoors. I’m fortunate enough to have visited many beautiful places. I’m an avid hiker and kayaker.
4) What’s the most expensive thing you’ve destroyed?
You’ve been watching too much Jurassic Park.
5) Most embarrassing moment?
That would be the ‘Triceratops Incident’ and I’ve been instructed by my attorney not to speak of it. Also, this is a family blog and that story may not be appropriate for younger readers.
6) How often do you get a bath and would you say it’s too often?
Sometimes, the human children that I live with stick me in their dinner or put me in their mouth (yech!). After those incidents, I demand an immediate bath (not with them).
7) What is your family’s financial plan or goals and how do you contribute?
My family wants to retire soon. While I don’t contribute financially yet, I do use my acting skills on the blog. My agent assures me that the blog appearances are just a stepping stone to greater things. Don’t be surprised if you see me on the cover of DQ (Dinosaur Quarterly) or in the next Jurassic Park.
8) What is your best skill?
Are good looks a skill? Probably not. I’m a wicked snowboarder. I kill it in the half-pipe.
9) What else would you like to say?
Don’t forget to live fully each and every day. Early retirement is a great goal and requires lots of future planning, so it’s easy to get caught up in it. Sometimes, Mr. 1500 lives too much in the future. Have fun. Be happy and even crazy at times. If you’re 40 and your neighbors catch you playing with little plastic dinosaurs, just smile, wave and tell them to have a nice day with the greatest enthusiasm you can muster.
Well, Frugalsaurus, don’t think I didn’t notice that “Greyhounds: The Other White Meat” cover article on Dinosaur Quarterly. Aside from that culinary misstep, I’d say we’re fairly similar creatures. I too am a model for a blog and I am often called “cute” and “essential” to the blog (we’ll ignore the fact that many people think I’m a boy).
Mrs. Frugalwoods here: I want to thank Mr. 1500 for submitting this inventive and fantastic interview! I’m a big fan of 1500 Days and Mr. 1500 and I actually wrote collaborative posts on hiking last week. If you haven’t read 1500 Days before, you’re in for a treat!
