The sun rises on 2021!!!!

It’s 2021, baby!!! 2020–that miscreant of a year–is gone. Today we begin the brave new adventure of a wholly transformed life. JK. Life looks exactly the same. BUT, you can start the year off right with the Uber Frugal Month Group Challenge. If you sign-up today (by 11:59pm EST on Friday, January 1, 2021), you’ll be part of the infamous UFM Group Challenge. What makes it a group? Because I SAY it’s a group. Actually, it’s our private UFM Facebook group coupled with the inherent knowledge that you’re not doing it alone plus the fact that I said so. More details here or just sign-up in the box below.

Maybe you bought a house this year, maybe you had a baby, maybe you lost your job or changed jobs, or maybe you’re just tired of not knowing where your $$$$ is going. The reason doesn’t matter.

Uber Frugal Month = free

Taking the UFM is like holding a friend’s hand while walking through a dark, cavernous depth that seems awful but, once you look closely, turns out to be a forest of black licorice, purple jellybeans and some tapioca pudding. Not scary and very understandable, but only if you have the right guide. I’m not saying I’m the right guide, but I am saying that I love black licorice, purple jellybeans, and tapioca pudding.

Listen, if you want to work on your money, from whatever angle–spending less, earning more, saving more, investing, retirement, college funds (insert a money thing here)–the UFM is a low-stakes way to start. Mostly because it’s free. Also because I’m pretty nice about the whole “get your life together” thing since I’m writing this from my couch at 9:57pm on New Year’s Eve while drinking chocolate vodka. So, you know, I don’t have any room to judge….

Ok, I think that’s all I have to say. I need to go to bed now so I can wake up early to prepare for the “day of sledding” I’ve promised my children, which, why oh why did I not say “day of movies on the couch”?

  1. Frugal Uber challenge is the real deal. I’ve done it before but I will still do that of this year because there are many areas I need to work on my frugal lifestyle

  2. Happy new year! I’m looking for ways to save money wherever I can because we’ve set some big (for us, anyway!) financial goals, and I’m all sorts of motivated to dive into them! So, looks like I’d better sign up (again). Thanks for the inspo! Also, stay safe sledding 🙂

  3. Thanks for the inspiration! I am looking forward to the month ahead. My husband
and I are nearing retirement, and we are always curious to find new ways to save.
We have lived a full life so far pushing ourselves along the way to achieve financial
independence, starting from $0 in 1980.

  4. Same as Donna. I signed up once and didn’t get the initial email so I signed up again thinking I had done it wrong and still haven’t gotten anything. I’d really like to participate!

    1. I am having the exact same problem. I’ve now tried it about 4 times. I wonder if some kind of limit was reached?

  5. I did the Uber Frugal Month in December 2017, and it inspired me to get a new heating system. The savings have been enormous, way higher than I ever expected. I am also happy to report that I remain on track to be able to retire, on a frugal income, by the end of 2022 – although my professional situation improved to an extent that this doesn’t look strictly necessary from a mental health perspective any longer. I carefully saved all of Liz’s emails and am just repeating the programme. The challenge is again to eat out of my pantry!

  6. I signed up as well and have received no emails. This isn’t the first time this has happened to me. January 2020 it also happened.

  7. Hello. I’ve signed up (again!) for the Frugalwoods January Ultra Frugal month — twice. Once with the email in November, and again today.
Is it getting out to everyone? It seems from the comments above that others are having the same problem. If we participated in the past, does something need to be done so we can participate again?
I’ve checked my trash, my spam, my email. No luck.
I’ve used the email address I’ve had for years, so i’ts accurate.
Hoping to get started with it this month!
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Linda: I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing this! The emails are being sent every morning. The best advice I have is to try signing up again. My apologies!! -Liz

  8. Thank you, Mrs. Frugalwoods!! We do Uber Frugal Month every once in a while—usually after the holidays!—for a refreshing reset. Nice to commit to making do with what we have and taking a break from that feeling of wanting The Next Thing.

  9. Hi – I love it so far. But I haven’t received any emails since UFM 6.s Nothing in Spam either. I will sign up again. Thanks!

  10. I received the e-mails initially, but they stopped after UFM 11. Might you consider posting, sharing links (via the website or monthly newsletter) to all the UFM Challenge e-mails? Thank you!
